- This patient has been previously diagnosed with HIV. The patient is exhibiting a herpes lesion in the chronic mucocutaneous type and has been suffering for a duration of a month. Herpes lesions are caused by the Herpes Simplex virus type 1 and are commonly known as fever blisters, cold sores, or medically known as recurrent herpes labialis.

Commonly known as cold sores, these lesions are caused by the Herpres Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1). They should not be confused with canker sores which are not contagious. Once infected, the HSV-1 tends to remain in the body all throughout a person’s lifetime.
