This is how a herpes simplex lesion on the lower lip up close on the second day after onset caused by the HSV1 pathogem. These oral lesions, commonly known either as fever blisters or cold sores, are caused by the Herpes simplex virus type1 (HSV-1). They are technically referred to as “recurrent herpes labialis.”
